ENERGY JUNKIES

PROBLEM

From mobile phones to coffee machines, almost everything in our lives requires energy to function. But a great deal of that energy comes from unsustainable sources which have detrimental and irreparable effects on our planet.

To make us aware of that fact, NEMO De Studio’s latest exhibition ‘Energy Junkies’ urges us to rethink our energy addiction. How can we challenge people to question our energy consumption and kick our fossil-fuel addiction?

SOLUTION

The three workouts take place in three experiments in which a bicycle is used to power an everyday electrical appliance. Would you cycle for 18 minutes to blow dry your hair – for one minute? Or 5 hours to power your e-bike? Once you, the energy junkie, becomes the battery, you really see how much energy we actually use.

CREATIVE

We created three installations which illustrate how much energy is required to power everyday electricals. Using real energy junkies as the battery, we see how hard we have to work to power something ordinary.
