A small and previously unknown village called Bergeijk in the Netherlands has become famous all over the country. First it appeared in a satirical radio show on national radio station 747AM. Then it became famous in a series of posters and a TV commercial, made by a local Bergeijk advertising agency (with the help of KesselsKramer's Succesful Farming). Take a look at their commercial which features an ex-Miss Bergeijk beauty queen from 1983 telling the world how much she loves listening to Radio Bergeijk. (Sorry! commercial in Dutch only.) Miss Bergeijk is now touring round farms near you. Catch her if you can.
Herbicide Resistant weeds have been an issue for over ten years, says Farm Chemicals expert Chris Barrett. It's an important issue with possible long term effects on your production , but it doesn't mean you need to rush out and adjust your herbicide program immediately. "However, if you are relying on the same herbicide year after year, you ought to consider alternatives," he says. Livestock Editor Johan Kramer reflects on his experience in 4-H. "It's amazing what knowledge and skills can sink into a kid's head while she is whining and complaining about farm chores and record books and having to practice for food demonstrations," he says.
